A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Charles Edward Jackson Sr., 82 of Decatur will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh M.B. Church and inhumation to follow in Sterrs Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to funeral. Public viewing will be today from 10-6 at Reynolds Funeral Home with a visitation following from 6 to 7.

Charles was born March 8, 1935 in Decatur to the late Clarence E. Jackson Sr. and Annie Pearl Reynolds Jackson. He departed this life on February 13, 2018 at his home where he was cared for by his loving wife.

Mr. Jackson attended Carver Elementary School and was a graduate of Decatur Negro High School. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. For many years he worked at Decatur General Hospital as a surgical technician. He retired as a chemical operator at 3M in Decatur.

He was united in marriage to Viola White. To this union two sons were born.

Bro. Jackson was a faithful member of the Alpha Seventh Day Adventist Church where he served as an usher until his health declined. He was known by his kind and generous manner. He often referred to himself as “a man of a few words” because he wasn’t very talkative.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his identical twin brother, Clarence E. Jackson, Eugene Jackson, and his sister, Hellen Sanders.

He leaves to cherish his memory the girl he was married to for 59 years, Viola White Jackson; his oldest son, Charles E. Jackson, Jr. and his children, Myra Williams, Charlandria Jackson and Kendrick Jackson of Decatur; and youngest son, Frederick W. (Shelia) Jackson and their children, Micah and Mishael Jackson of Huntsville; four brothers, Jessie L. (Margaret) Jackson, Russell E. (Cathy) Jackson, Jameel Jackson, and Gregory J. (Dara) Jackson, all of Decatur; one aunt, Jane Jackson of Decatur; eight brothers-in-law, Willie, Thomas Lee, Carnell, Ivory Joe, John Douglass, Danny and Tony White; four sisters-in-law, Sam Etta Garrett, Estelle Cohen, Alberta White and Phyllis Scott; four granddaughters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
