Sarah Hamilton James – Obituary

Sarah Hamilton James, 68, of Huntsville, passed away Tuesday. The youngest child of Hazel and Tom Hamilton, Sarah was born in Decatur and graduated from Decatur High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Speech Pathology from Auburn University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Virginia. Sarah was in private practice where she was devoted to children for a number of years. She was known for teaching children to read, whom others said could never learn.

Sarah was a longtime member of the Church of the Nativity where she was on the Altar Guild, and also a member of the Junior League.

Survivors include her son, Jackson James of Huntsville; sisters, Betty Hazel Underwood of Huntsville, and Lou Ann Corazzari (Phil) of Decatur; brother, Gene Hamilton (Betty) of Decatur; aunt and uncle, Beverly and Jim Fite; nieces, Sally Underwood Stockton and Sidney Underwood King; and nephews, Tom Underwood, Nelson Corazzari, Evan Corazzari, Luke Hamilton and Josh Hamilton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 23rd at Church of the Nativity with the Rev. Dr. Virginia Monroe officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Garden at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Nativity Altar Guild, or the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research, 34 S. Lemon Ave., #3620, Walnut, CA, 91789.
