Memorial services for 80-year-old Jerry Clyde Mewbourne will be Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at 2 p.m. at King’s Funeral Home with Rev. Jamus Redd officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at King’s Funeral Home.
Survivors include wife, Charlotte Mewbourne, Cadiz, Kentucky; son and daughter-in-law, James Christopher Mewbourne (Renee), Huntsville, Alabama; stepsons, Charles Vanover (Monta), Philpot, Kentucky, Doug Vanover (Amanda), Memphis, Tennessee, and Jonathan Vanover (Cindy), Lancaster, California; brothers, Ben Pope (Abbe), Cornersville, Tennessee, and Steve Pope (Linda), Tuscumbia, Alabama; sister, Pat Moffett, Vacaville, California; grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, Ashley, Jesse, Adam, and Alice; great-grandson, Justin; and a beloved dog, Doll Baby.
He was born in Waycross, Georgia on July 24, 1937, to the late Clyde Holland Mewbourne and Florence Beatrice Marona Pope. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Lee Angela Mewbourne.
He died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Trigg County Hospital following a long illness.
He was a retired nuclear reactor operator for TVA Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Alabama, a member of the Cadiz United Methodist Church, and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was an avid turkey hunter and an avid Alabama Crimson Tide football fan.
