Mittie departed this life surrounded by her family and entered her heavenly home on Jan 3, 2018, after a lengthy illness. Mittie’s passion in life was her Lord, her church, and her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She was a proud member of the Sheffield High School class of 1950.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Hollis Isbell; her son, Neal Isbell and wife, Debbie; son, Richard Isbell; and daughter, Madonna Choat and husband, Gerald. She is survived by her sister and best friend, Shirley Copeland and her husband, William; brother, Douglas Gargis; brother-in-law, Claude Uhlman; and sister-in-law, Pauline Gargis. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Todd Isbell and wife, Melinda, Shane Isbell and wife, Misty, Bryant Isbell, Julie Isbell Hargett and husband, Chris, Christopher Isbell, Holli Oliver, and Cale Choat. She is survived by ten great-grandchildren, Tyler Isbell, Ellie Isbell, Emma Isbell, Avery Isbell, Nevie Isbell, Sophia Isbell, Allie Isbell, Cooper Hargett, Banks Hargett, and Jolee Isbell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theo and Linda Meadows Gargis; sisters, Judy Skerston and Mary Jo Uhlman; and brothers, Walter Gargis, Mack Gargis, Charles Gargis, and Tillman Gargis.

Visitation will be today, 10 a.m. until noon, at Morrison Funeral Home in Tuscumbia with service to follow in the chapel at noon. Dr. Tom Whatley and Brother Jerry Rea will officiate the service.

Mittie was part of the youth group when Woodward Avenue Baptist Church was formed in 1945, and as a teenager she accepted Christ and became a member of Woodward Avenue where she served faithfully for more than 65 years.

Her love and passion were children and youth. It was in this ministry where she was most comfortable serving as teacher and, for 25 years, voluntary nursery coordinator.

Mittie served her Lord and her church faithfully her entire life. She lived by a simple rule: all of her actions and words were bathed in prayer, and she believed the solution to most problems was love.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Todd Isbell, Shane Isbell, Christopher Isbell, Tyler Isbell, Dr. Chris Hargett, and Wally Copeland.

As a family we offer our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Brad McAnalley and Dr. Bill Heaton for the excellent care provided Mittie the last few years. Thank you to Lorie Knight and all personnel from Hospice of North Alabama.

A special thank you to Mary Baily for her tender compassionate care provided to Mittie and the family during her illness.

Our family will always cherish these words spoken by Mittie for years at the end of each visit, “Be careful—I love you—and remember Jesus loves you more!”

Please send memorials to the charity of your choice.
