Dorene Lillian Yost Gwyer, 65, of Madison, AL, passed away on December 15, 2017 from acute pancreatitis at Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Dorene was born in Louisville, KY to Marion and Dorn Yost on July 27, 1952. She went to Dixie Hollins High School in St. Petersburg, FL and graduated in 1970. She went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education from University of South Florida. Over the years, she was a teacher, a bank teller, and for 16 years as an administrative assistant at MESA Associates in Madison. She loved singing in the choir and also enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, traveling, and camping. She attended, sang, and volunteered at St Marks United Methodist Church in St Petersburg, FL, and locally at Fords Chapel UMC, Good Shepherd UMC, and Madison Christian Church. She was a member of Madison Station Quilters Guild. She was a member and former officer of Browns Creek Sailing Association in Guntersville, AL.
Dorene is survived by her husband, John R. Gwyer Jr. of Madison, AL, and grandson Kristopher Agreen of Wilmington, DE. She was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Dorn Yost, sister Darlene Yost, brother Dorn Yost and step daughter Jacqueline Kauffman.
A memorial service will be held at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Madison AL on Friday, Jan 5. Visitation will occur at the church from 2 pm until 3 pm, with the service following.
