Funeral for Elese Murdock Alexander, 84, of Decatur, will be Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jackie Kay of Central Park Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service. Interment will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.
Elese went from the arms of her children to the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ, a far better place, on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017. She was born in Lawrence County, Tennessee, on Oct. 29, 1933, to Gordon and Mabel Winters Murdock. She worked as an RN at Decatur General Hospital for 20 years before retiring. Elese was a member of Central Park Baptist Church for more than 50 years. She was a devoted Christian, mother and grandmother who dearly loved her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Durell Alexander; one sister, Elizabeth Goins; one brother, Jimmy Murdock; and one grandson, Adam Alexander.
She is survived by one son, Bentley Alexander (Karen), of Jasper; two daughters, Jennifer Puckett (Jerry) and Karen Butler (Boyd), both of Decatur; two brothers, James Murdock (Andrea), of Athens, Georgia, and Steven Murdock (Tammy), of Monroe, Michigan; two sisters, Esther Timko (Joe), of Monroe, Michigan, and Maxine Hoover (Jay), of Temperance, Michigan; five grandchildren, Megan McCulley (Mike), of Montgomery, Brannon Butler (Desiree), of Decatur, Lindsay Lucas (John), of Atlanta, Ethan Butler, of Hartselle, and Abi Bonjiovanni (Jon), of Jasper; five great-grandchildren, Sam Puckett, Olivia Varner, Sophia McCulley, J. C. Allen and Ella Butler; and many precious nephews and nieces.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
