Dave Lee Beckwith was born March 25, 1938 in Florence. He was one of ten children born to the late Jack Beckwith and Hattie Vaughn-Beckwith.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Spry-Williams Funeral Home of Florence. The service will be Wednesday, November 1st at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Trevor Crenshaw officiating. Entombment will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
Dave accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his early teens at Mount Moriah Primitive Baptist Church Florence. He attended W.C. Handy School, where he dropped out of school to work. He received a job with Harrison-White Pontiac washing cars. He later was promoted to Lube Tech service man. Dave’s outstanding mechanical skill and talent was second to none and will solely be missed. He retired after 48 years of service. He was an avid golfer and was the owner and operator of Westside Pool Hall on West Mobile Street.
During this life pilgrimage we have the opportunity to prepare for eternity. Life and Death is in the power of the tongue, use your words carefully. Death to born-again believers is a more peaceful, joyful, glorious, and victorious life. God called our loving, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend from labor to reward on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017.
Dave was united in Holy Matrimony to Alberta Fuqua and God blessed them with one son, Dave Jr. Later, he was united to Vanessa Abernathy and she survives.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Hettie Vaughn-Beckwith; brothers, George, Jack Jr., Pearl Paul (Notty Beck) Beckwith; sisters, Jessie Mae James, Julia C. Hardin, Annie Pearl Southern, Jo Willie Foreman and Dora Lee Goodloe; nephews, George Howard (PeeWee) Foster, Charles Reeder and Reyab El Rey; and niece, Hettie Rebecca Ragland.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Vanessa Beckwith; children, son, Dave (Carolyn) Beckwith Jr.; daughter, Judy L. Beckwith; eight grandchldren, Dave Savage, De Marcus, Terrance, Bobrenti, Stacy, Kerturah, Ladava, Rachel and Rakel; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Annie) Beckwith; sisters, Mattie Duster and Hettie Fakunle of Florence; mother-in-law, Helen Spearman; three brothers-in-law, William Hardin of Denver, Colorado, Michael Abernathy of Houston, Texas, James Stanford of Florence; three sisters-in-law, Earlene Lewis, Myra Stanford and Jermonia Roberson and many nieces and nephews.
