A Celebration of Life for Carrie D. Smith, 108, of Decatur, will be noon Wednesday at Shiloh M.B. Church with Elder Coynis Smith officiating and inhumation to follow in New Life Community Cemetery in Town Creek. The body will lie in repose one hour prior to the funeral. Reynolds Funeral Home is directing.

Mrs. Smith was born July 11, 1909, in Lawrence County to the late Joe Davis Sr. and Ida Mae Watkins Davis. She passed in peaceful serenity on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at the Parkway Campus of Decatur Morgan Hospital.

Carrie confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined First Baptist in Courtland. She always had church at heart and served faithfully when she was able. She was first lady of First Baptist Church in Town Creek, Pleasant Grove of Courtland, Moulton Heights in Decatur and Wheeler Chapel Baptist Church of Courtland.

On July 9, 1927, Carrie Davis and James Smith were united in Holy Matrimony. To this union 10 children were born. Some children preceded her in death, including Ida Mae Madden and Nathaniel Smith.

She leaves to cherish her memory three loving daughters, Lillian White and Carrie Moore, of Decatur, and Mary Allen (Frank), of Tuscumbia; sons, George Smith (Novella) and James Smith Jr. (Louise), of Decatur; daughter-in-law, Eva Smith, of Town Creek; 34 faithful grandchildren; 101 great-grandchildren; 77 great-great-grandchildren; a devoted niece, Jessie Fuqua, and nephew, Robert Lee Davis.

She ended this life after many years of service to her family, friends and community in numerous ways where her presence will always be remembered.
