Laura Eloise Mills, 90, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Southern Magnolia in Iuka, Mississippi. Mrs. Mills was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Pickens County to William and Levie McCool Pritchett. She graduated from Livingston State Teachers College where she met her husband of 68 years, James G. (Bud) Mills. They moved to Cherokee, Alabama in 1955 after teaching in West Blockton (1949-1950), Town Creek (1951-1953) and Vincent (1954). Mrs. Mills taught at Cherokee High School from 1955-1989 when she retired.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a choir member, served in her Sunday school class, and helped with the youth activities throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, James G. (Bud) Mills; daughter and son-in-law, Krista and Joe Welford; two grandchildren, Jason Hoffman and Laura (Jeff) Kunard; five great-grandchildren; brother, O.T. Pritchett; sister, Anna Katherine Richardson; sister-in-law, Zelda Pritchett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leon Pritchett and Robert Earl (Bob) Pritchett; and her sister, Clarice Stokes.
The visitation will be Sunday at the First Baptist Church in Cherokee, Alabama from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The funeral will follow at 3 p.m. with Steve Slaton and Morris Kennedy officiating. Burial service will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery with Morrison Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Thomason, Terry Burcham, Ronnie Daniel, Isaac Jones, Andy Bolding, and Arthur Waldrep.
