Robert C. Johnson Sr., 88, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, from 11 a.m. to noon at Roselawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow in the chapel with burial in Roselawn Cemetery.

Robert “Bob” Johnson was born June 15, 1929, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He graduated from Southern Mississippi University and later served in the United States Navy. He was retired from Raytheon Company where he was Liason Officer for Hawk Missile division. Bob was a longtime member of Burningtree Country Club where he was past President of the Men’s Golf Association and was affectionately known to many as “The Birdhouse Man.”

Preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Johnson; son, Robert C. Johnson, Jr., and grandson, Bradley Allen Johnson, of Birmingham. Survived by three children, Margaret (Kenn) Whitmyer, (Gahanna, Ohio), Hugh (Shari) Johnson, (Hoover) and Janet (Chris) Taylor (Peachtree City, Georgia); seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Bob was a friend to many. He loved fishing, golf and playing cards. He will be greatly missed.
