John A. Abernathy Jr., age 68, died Monday, March 6, 2017, at Centennial Medical Center, Nashville, of complications from a stroke.
Mr. Abernathy was born June 27, 1948, in Waverly, Tennessee. He was a 1966 graduate of Mars Hill Bible School, Florence. He was an Air National Guard veteran. Mr. Abernathy was currently working as a mechanic for Hatcher Nursery. He was a Christian and worshipped at Christ Family Church in Nolensville.
Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Hutton Abernathy, and his stepbrother-in-law, Charles W. Sims.
He is survived locally by his parents, Johnny and Patsy Abernathy, Killen; and stepsisters and brothers, Jan Sims, Connie (Michael) Hill, Chris Pepper, Florence, Judy LaCaze, Huntsville, and Fred (Lynn) Pepper, Silver Hill.
A memorial and burial service were held last week in Tennessee. Humphreys County Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
