Mr. Bruce Malcolm Phelps II, 86, of Florence, passed away on February 28, 2017 at his residence. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and members of Stony Point Church of Christ and Petersville Church of Christ.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Petersville Church of Christ from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The funeral will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Petersville Church of Christ with David Smith and Norman Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park with military funeral honors at graveside.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Collins Phelps; son, Bruce Malcom Phelps III; granddaughter, Stephanie Phelps; sisters, Evelyn Hehn and Dorothy Anderson; father, B. W. Phelps and mother, Annie Marjorie Phelps.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Frances Earline Berry Phelps; daughters, Frances Barber (Marvin) of El Paso, TX, Sheree Lavender of Nashville, TN and Marjorie Rivera (Ricardo “Poncho” ) of Florence, AL; brother, John Phelps of Florence, AL ; sisters, Bobbie Mitchell of Florence, AL and Ruth Douthitt of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth Ellis (Aaron), Rebecca Phelps, Jonathan Porter, Joshua , Marvin Jr. and Kevin Barber, Caleb and Kyle Lavender, Brooke , Amanda , Madison and Codi Rivera and great- grandchildren, Aaron Jr., Ryan, Hope and Rachel Ellis, Ayden Textus, Ryan Barber, Zion and Isaac Rivera, and survived by numerous children from the North Alabama Children’s Home.
Active pallbearers will be Joshua Barber, Kyle Lavender, Chris Burbank, Mike Brock, Rod Peden, Aaron Ellis, Jordan Eddy and Cody Davis.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Poncho Rivera, Terry Oakley, Gary Pannell, Louis McAdams, Jim Goldie and Bob Parks.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses of Hospice of North Alabama, Anna and Mallorie and to his caretaker, Judy Bruce.
