Carl Edward Huffman, 59, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 18, 2017 at his sister’s residence east of Nettleton, while recovering from recent surgery. Born in Tupelo on March 28, 1957 to the late Carl and Adelle Harris Huffman, Eddie was the only son and the baby of 4. He grew up in the New Hope Community east of Plantersville and attended Plantersville and Shannon Public Schools. A patriotic American, Eddie was a member of the Mississippi National Guard and was deployed during Operation Desert Storm. He was a longtime truck driver for Action Industries and, at his death, was an employee of the 5th District of Lee County. Eddie loved his family and friends especially his nieces and nephews, enjoyed fishing and NASCAR, was a longtime member of American Legion Post 49 in Tupelo and the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church near Nettleton.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Monday, Feb. 20, 2017 at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Mark Hoover officiating and family friend, Steve Holland, delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Huffman Family Plot at Gilvo Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 PM-6PM today (Sunday) at Holland-Tupelo Chapel and 1 PM-service time on Monday.
Survivors include his siblings: Nona McBunch (George) of Amory, MS, Carlene Spigner (Carlton) of Marietta and June Phillips (Mike) of Tupelo. His nieces and nephews, Barbara Benson (Randy) of Brewer, Debbie Bowen (Leslie) of Okolona, Dwight Burt (deceased), Glen Burt (Michelle) and Courtney Oliver (Adam) all of Nettleton. His great nieces and nephews, his extended family and a host of friends everywhere.
Pallbearers will be Marty Mask, Glen, Michael and Jacob Burt, J. B. Berryman and Adam Oliver. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Joe Holland, John Albert Leslie and the 5th District of Lee County employees.
