Mr. Donald Wayne “Don” Bailey, 71 of Arab, the Ruth Community, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at Huntsville Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Bailey was born July 18, 1945 in Marshall County to Robert Benson Bailey and Ruby Delores Saylor Bailey. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a self employed contractor for over 40 years. He was a skilled craftsman and avid outdoorsman who loved the Lord, life and his family. His motto was JOY: Jesus first, others second and yourself last.
He was a member of Ruth Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife of 19 years: Deborah V. Bailey; his sons: Alfred Williams and Drew Vickers, his daughters and son-in-law: Janette and Steve Lemons and Amy Vickers; six grandchildren,; six great grandchildren; sisters: Roberta Wallen and Sandra Willis and a host of nieces, nephews and faithful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Ruby Bailey; a son Scott Bailey and his wife of 31 years: Beverly Bailey.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 11, 2017 at Ruth Baptist Church with Brothers: Jimmy Robinson and Radford Pritchett, officiating. Burial will be in Mt Oak/Ruth Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Steve Lemons, Jamey Light, Larry Vaughn, Jaemon Gillies, Mark Prince and Michael Jarvis.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Buddy Green, Dr. John Watkins and Terry Bennett.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 11, 2017 prior to the service at Ruth Baptist Church.
