Robert D. Belew, Sr. – Obituary

Robert D. Belew, Sr., age 89, of Lawrenceburg, TN passed away Saturday, February 04, 2017 at his residence.  He was a native of Lawrence County, TN and retired from the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably in WWII, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam Era from March 28, 1945 until September 1, 1965.  Mr. Belew retired as a Veteran Service Officer and County Trustee with Local Government in 1986; and served for nine years as Lawrence County Commissioner.  He was a member and past Commander of L. O. Crane, The American Legion, lifetime member of VFW Post 1618, Past President of the Tennessee Veteran Service Officers Association, “Three War” Veterans of America, Under Age Veterans of America, and Pulaski Street Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W. C. “Pete” and Mattie Newton Belew; his first wife, Dorothy Cheatwood Belew; one daughter, Sharon Lynn Becker; one son, Robert D. Belew, Jr.; and three sisters, Nell Roberts, Martha Smith, and Nanette Brumit.

The Respiratory Therapists at Southern Tennessee Regional Health System – Lawrenceburg will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Arrangements are being handled by Neal Funeral Home, 231 N. Military Avenue, Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, February 06, 2017 and 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 07, 2017 at Neal Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted at Neal Funeral Home at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 07, 2017, with Jeremiah Tatum and Jacob Evans officiating.  Interment will follow at Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Lawrenceburg, TN with full military honors.  Family suggests memorials be made to Pulaski Street Church of Christ Benevolence Fund.
