Shirley Ray McGahan – Obituary

Shirley Ray McGahan passed away Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017 at the age of 82. Shirley was a devoted wife and homemaker for 64 years. She died at home surrounded by family. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Effie Elizabeth Judkins Wyatt and George Edward Wyatt, Sr.; two sisters, Barbara Wilson and Mary Sandlin; and one brother, George Wyatt, Jr.

Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She faithfully raised four sons and encouraged them in all their endeavors. She was especially known for her wonderful cooking skills and her beautiful garden. Shirley courageously fought her battle against Alzheimer’s. The family would like to thank Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Association.

She is survived by Wallace Byron McGahan, her husband of 64 years and four sons, Wallace Byron McGahan, Jr. and wife, Dixie of Weaver, Alabama, Michael Lee McGahan and wife, Belinda of Huntsville, Richard Allen McGahan and wife, Michelle of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Gary McGahan of Montgomery; two brothers, Robert Wyatt of Raleigh, North Carolina and Herbert Wyatt of Church View, Virginia; three sisters, Anne Walloch of Westminster, California, Gloria Jones of Hampton, Virginia and Georgia Rodgers of Newport News, Virginia and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Roselawn Funeral Home has the honor of serving the family.

Aunt Shirley always was a kind person with a heart of gold. I think of her often.
