ATHENS-Athens Police Chief Floyd Johnson issued a statement concerning a robbery on Tuesday, January 17 in the 300 block of Strange Street:

“About 5:19 yesterday morning the police department responded to a call of a disturbance in the 300 block of Strange Street. When officers arrived they located the victim of a robbery.

The victim told officers he was buying an IPhone 6 for $200.00 when the male he was buying the phone from pulled a pistol and demanded the money. The victim then attempted to grab the pistol and struggled with the suspect.

The victim said he had  grabbed the suspect from behind and the suspect hit him several times in the face and head with the gun. The suspect did get away with the victims money.

I’m not aware of any medical treatment for the victim.

Investigator Brett Constable interviewed the victim and witnesses; he developed Jonathan Deivon Wiggins as a suspect in the case. Later in the morning Constable obtained a robbery warrant for Wiggin’s arrest.

Wiggins was arrested yesterday afternoon at his residence on Dart Circle. He was later booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
