Barbara Jean Murks, 68 of Lexington, Alabama, returned home peacefully on December 24 in Tampa, Florida. After graduating from Lexington High School, she attended Florence State College (UNA), where she received her B.S. in English and Master’s Degree in Secondary Education. Jean was blessed to teach 11th/12th grade history and economics at Lexington High School. She was passionate about teaching young men and women and touched the lives of many of her students. Jean enjoyed reading, trivia, spending time with her daughter and grandchildren. Jean was a member of the Lexington United Methodist Church .Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 30, 2016 at 12:00 PM at Lexington United Methodist Church with Phil Springer, Danny Pettus, and Kevin Creekmore officiating, with burial to follow in Pettus Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday December 30, 2016 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Lexington United Methodist Church.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Murks, father, Wallace H. Thompson and grandmother, Lura Thompson. Jean is survived by Daughter Sarah Hikler; (husband Chad), Step-son Wesley Murks (Gail), Grandchildren Olivia, 9 and Alex, 7; Mother Jimmie Boone Thompson – Brothers and sisters: Wallace H. Thompson, Jr (Polly) – Ann Howard (Roger) – Pam Thompson – Charlie Thompson (Cindy) – nieces and nephews.
