George Hubbard Russell – Obituary

George Hubbard Russell, age 77, of Haleyville, Alabama passed away December 24, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He was a member of Haleyville Masonic Lodge #464, was serving as a Haleyville City Councilman, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Haleyville.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home in Haleyville, with Bro. John Simmons officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends after the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Goodwin, Dwayne Melton, John Barton, Ken Sunseri, Tommy Sullins, Roger Hayes and Shannon Lollar.

Mr. Russell is survived by his wife, Mary Balmain Russell, they were married on December 30, 1963; son, George Blue (Jennifer) Russell; grandson, George Wyatt Russell; sister, Sharron Russell Holmes; sister in law, Jane Balmain (Randy) Rogers; nieces, Meg Lankford, Jenny Holmes, Sydney Rogers, McKenna Rogers; great nephew and niece, Jackson and Mary Margaret Lankford; and cousins, Debra (Andy) Walker and Roger (Gay) Flynt.

He is preceded in death by his father, George Hubbard Russell; mother, Mildred Williams Meyer; and brother in law, Michael Boyce Holmes.

Mr. Russell began his career in the manufactured housing industry in 1968. At that times he was employed with Ward Supply and moved to Haleyville, Alabama. During the next 34 years, George worked in management positions with Plastic Formers, R and H Sales, R and R Supply, and Basic Components, Inc.

George served on the Board of the Service and Supply Division of South Central Manufactured Housing Institute from 1973 to 1977 and also served on SCMHI Board of Directors. He was an active member of the Alabama Suppliers Association for 20 years and served on the Industrial Board for the City of Haleyville since. 1994.

He served as AMHI Chair from 1984 to 1988 and was named AMHI Person of the Year in 1987. He also served on several committees within the AMHI.
