Melvin Herbert Compton, 83 of Union Grove Alabama, the Pine Ridge Community, died Sunday December 25, 2016 at Marshall Medical Center North.
Mr. Compton was born February 14, 1933 in Morgan County to Elmer Bernard Compton and Clyde Ethel Criscoe Compton. He was a 1951 graduate of Union Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He and the former Ruby Claudette Betterton were married for 60 years. Mr. Compton worked for B.K. Manufacturing as a tool and die maker until his retirement. He enjoyed having game birds, chickens, pheasants and quail.
Mr. Compton is survived by his wife of 60 years: Claudette Compton; sons and daughter-in-law: David and Betty Compton and Jeff Compton; a great grandchild: Cody Lee Compton; he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Milford Compton, Hershel Compton, Hubert Compton, Ruth Eubanks, Ethel Compton and Mamie King; his parents: Elmer Bernard and Clyde Ethel Compton; a daughter: Sherrie Belinda Compton Cavender and a grandchild: Jamie Leighanne Compton.
Funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday December 28, 2016 at Brindlee Mountain Chapel in Morgan City with Brothers: Kenneth Smith and Eldridge Criscoe, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel and Brindlee Mountain Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Steve Allen, David Parker, Daniel Parker and Jordan Brooks.
Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Brindlee Mountain Chapel prior to the service.
