Emma Frances Walton Pettit – Obituary

Emma Frances Walton Pettit passed away November 15, 2016, surrounded by loved ones in her home. She was born July 13, 1932, the oldest child of James Hady Walton and Eron Exie Sheffield Walton.
Emma graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1951. She graduated from Itawamba Junior College in 1953. This was the third graduating class of IJC. On June 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, Jessie Reid Pettit. They were married for 61 years. They have two daughters, Pamela Leigh Pettit Brown and Tammy Frances Pettit Loague.

Emma was a lifetime member of Bethel Baptist Church. She loved her church and Sunday School Class, Faith keepers. She was a great prayer warrior. She loved to cook. Her dishes of chicken and dressing, cakes, and pies were sought out at Homecoming and special events.
She was affectionately called Mom Mom by her family and extended family. She loved her family and they always knew it. She kept all her grandchildren before they started school and anytime they wanted to be there. They called it going to Mom Mom’s school.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jessie Reid Pettit, and her brother Isaac John Walton.

Her legacy includes daughters, Pam (Tracy) Brown, Dorsey, Tammy (David) Loague, Peppertown; her pride and joy, the grandchildren: Jessie David (Beth) Loague, Mantachie, Thomas Matthew (Molly) Taylor, Dorsey, Kristin Erin (C J) Adams, Fulton, Laura (Bradley) Starling, Shiloh, and Nick (Lilly) Brown, Rockport, Maine; her great grandchildren, Finley, Harper, and Lucy Taylor, Emmy Caroline and Henry Cade Adams, Bo Rivers Davis, and Nora Grace Starling; a special nephew, James Hady Walton; a special sister in law, Patsy Ruth Pettit; a special first cousin, Eva (Jack) Chilcoat; and numerous cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and her nephew.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Bethel Baptist Church.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, November 17, at Bethel Baptist Church in Dorsey, MS with Dr. Kevin Clayton, Bro. Tracy McMillen, and Bro. Bradley Starling officiating. Burial will be in the Dorsey Memorial Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Fulton is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until service time Thursday at Bethel Baptist Church
