Bernice Sharles Bailey, 91 of Fayetteville, Tennessee died on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Southern Manor Assisted Living in Fayetteville, Tennessee.
Born Tuesday, June 23, 1925 in Cash Point, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John B. Mitchell and the late Minnie Ola Smith Mitchell. She was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church, She taught Sunday School for a total of 54 years at Piney Grove and Highlands Baptist Church in Huntsville. She taught reading at East Limestone School and loved crocheting, witnessing, attending Bible studies and teaching. She especially enjoyed reading and spending time with her family and friends. She graduated from Athens State University and received a Masters Degree from UNA. Her first career was as a beautician in Ardmore. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Roy Lee Bailey, son: Johnny R. Bailey, Sr, Brothers: Percy, Jim, Pitts, and Alton Mitchell, sisters: Elsie Smith, Vergie Mitchell, Lucille Brown, Alma Magnusson, and Parthine Mitchell. She was an inspiration, encourager, and blessing to all who knew her.
Surviving are son, Tommie Lee & Carla Bailey of Tuscumbia, AL, daughters, Donna Kay & Tony Malone of Meridianville, AL and Carol Jane & Jim Cooper of Taft, TN, 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 7 gr-gr-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama with Dr. Ray Stonecypher and Rev. Brett Pitman officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home, Ardmore, Alabama.
