TUSCUMBIA-Frye Gaillard, and Anne DeChant, two talented people who share a love for Americana music, will put on a unique program featuring both excerpts from Gaillard’s book Watermelon Wine, and a musical performance by DeChant, followed by a book signing. The special program will be held Tuesday, November 15 at 6:30 pm.
Anne DeChant is a five-time Cleveland Singer-Songwriter of the Year winner, who moved to Nashville in the late 2000s. She has shared the stage with musicians such as Stevie Nicks, Nora Jones, Sheryl Crow, and the Indigo Girls. DeChant’s song “Girls and Airplanes,” has been featured in the film The Hot Flashes, which stars Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes, and Daryl Hannah. DeChant has won over a dozen awards from the Cleveland, Ohio area for her incredible vocal and songwriting talents. No Depression, a
quarterly journal that examines the history of American music, has said, “She is what the future of Americana music needs to be.”
Frye Gaillard is the current Writer in Residence at the University of South Alabama. He has authored over 20 non-fiction books, many of which deal with southern culture, history, and related social issues. He has earned many awards for his writing
including the Lillian Smith award in 2005, and the Alabama Library Association’s non-fiction Book of the Year in 2007. His book Watermelon Wine: The Spirit of Country Music offers and incredible look at the evolution of the Country Music industry and its relationship to other music genres. The book deals with many artists with ties to Alabama such as Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash.
Gaillard and DeChant have appeared together at a variety of venues from Belmont University to the famous Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, and Kimbro’s Pickin’ Parlor in Franklin Tennessee, as well as the Hank Williams Museum.
The program will be held in the Alabama Music Hall of Fame lobby, Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30pm. There is no admission charge.
