James “Bruce” Harris – Obituary

jaesJames “Bruce” Harris, 91, died Sept. 5, 2016, at his home in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 9, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Harris is survived by is wife, Reba Harris; two children, Kathy Askew (Bret), of Southaven, Mississippi, and Michael Harris, of Muscle Shoals; two stepchildren, Charlotte Curry and Sheila Harbor (Dyer); sister, Wanda Harris, of Florence; six grandchildren, Robb Thompson, Keely Cook, Corrie Aldinger, Anna Rucker, Cole Harris, and Caleb Harris; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Regina Sewell (Mike), and his brother, Hollis Harris.

Mr. Harris was a World War II veteran serving overseas in the army. After returning home, he started a trucking business delivering mail for the United States Postal Service throughout the southeast. He successfully ran Harris Express for 60 years. He was a hardworking, honest businessman and one of the greatest men of the “greatest generation”. He was a kind and generous boss, a loving husband, and a steadfast father.

Mr. Harris was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church for over 40 years. Pallbearers include Robb Thompson, Cole Harris, Caleb Harris, Chris Cook, Patrick Aldinger, Nathan Rucker, Jackson Cook, and Grayson Cook. Honorary pallbearers are Avery Michaels and Bobby Lindsay.

A very special thanks to Kay Dunlap of Heartwarming Care, his loving and faithful caregiver to the end, and June and Melanie Vandiver, close friends for many years.
