FLORENCE-Florence Police released the name of the woman’s body that was discovered on Helton Drive on Thursday, September 1 as that of Chrysty Lynn Copeland, 39.
Copeland’s body was discovered on Thursday morning by city workers mowing the grass . Authorities say the person mowing the grass stopped the mower next to the decomposed body.
The cause of death has not been determined due to the extreme decomposition of Copeland’s body. Police say they will have to rely on forensics and collected evidence to determine the cause of death and the direction of the investigation.
Florence Police Statement:
“At this point we are awaiting preliminary autopsy results and no cause of death has been determined. Due to the extreme decay of the deceased we will rely on forensics and evidence collected at the scene to determine the direction of the investigation. This investigation is ongoing and detectives have worked throughout the day speaking with acquaintances and family members of the deceased in an effort to establish timelines in this case.
We expect additional information next week and will update accordingly.”
