William Hollis Bendall, age 86 of Tuscumbia, passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2016. His family will receive friends Friday, 9-11 a.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Barrett Long officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Tuscumbia.
Hollis was born and raised in Tuscumbia. He served the city as a commissioner for twenty years, including eight as Mayor. He also worked in the sheet finishing department at Reynolds Metals Company for thirty years. He dedicated his life to serving others through public service and as a Deacon at First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia. But his greatest service and his greatest devotion was to his family, to whom he provided strong comfort and an unwavering example of humility throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Daisy Barnes Bendall, his daughter, Pat Bendall King, his parents, Nellie and James Bendall and sister, Methel Bendall Carpenter.
He is survived by his grandchildren; Chris King (Katie) of Muscle Shoals, Scott King of Florence, Will King (Carrie) of Sheffield and Leah Hollingsworth (Kendall) of Florence, sister, Mildred Holt of Tuscumbia, brother, Kenneth Bendall (Charlene) of Huntsville, son-in-law, Billy King of Tuscumbia, many nieces, nephews and cousins. His great-grandchildren; Brayden & Ava King, Porter and Noah Hollingsworth provided him much joy and laughter in his later years.
Pallbearers are Will King, Kendall Hollingsworth, Doug Holt, Alan Barnes, Randy Cox, Frankie Tubbs and Robert Atherton.
