Paul Dudley Sandlin age 91 of Athens, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Limestone Health Facility. Mr. Sandlin was born December 17, 1924 in Limestone County, AL to James Arthur and Gertrude Vincent Sandlin.
Services will be Thursday, July 28, 2016 2:00 p.m., at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bill Perkins officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.
Proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1942-1946 as a member of “Greatest Generation”. A graduate of Athens College majored in accounting and was initially employed at Redstone Arsenal. He them became one of the earliest employees of NASA in Huntsville, AL, and thoroughly enjoyed his tenure during the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo generation that ultimately put man on the moon. He retired after33 years of service. Paul was an avid University of Alabama sports fan and assisted all four of his children in graduating from the University of Alabama. He was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman, golfer and gardner for many years. Paul was tremendously proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a Mason and attended Central Church of Christ.
Preceded in death by one brother, Leon Sandlin.
Survived by his wife, of 65 years Eugenia Ramsey Sandlin; children, Marc Sandlin of Madison, Denise Smith of Birmingham, AL, Keith Sandlin and wife, Carol of Cartersville, GA and Eric Sandlin of Athens; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Lois Jean Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Lincoln Smith, Taylor Green, Robert Brannon, Steve Ramsey, John Tankersley and Dennis Foster.
