Wendell Phifer – Obituary

Wendell Phifer, 61, of Burnsville, MS, died Friday, July 15, 2016, at his residence. He was a devoted Christian, father, and adored and devoted husband who loved deeply and enjoyed life every day. Outside of God and family, his love for the outdoors was evident in his B.A.S.S. fishing career and the hunting trips he so enjoyed. He was a 29 year veteran teacher who touched more lives than can be counted. His love for his students was evident and they were a great source of pride for him. Funeral services are scheduled for 1 PM on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church, officiated by Bro. Jack Whitley, Bro. John Grady Taylor, and Bro. Phil Anglin. Interment will follow in New Lebanon Cemetery. Pallbearers include Doug Taylor, Steve McAnally, John Grady Taylor, Justin Maxwell, Jimmy Bailey, Gary Taylor, Bob Nelson, Joe Credille, and Kenny Slack. Honorary bearers will be Dr. Scott Seagers, Dairl Clayton, Jimmy Belue, Freddie Farr, Kenny Slack, Buddy Hall, Tommy Howell, Jerry George, Dustin Lambert, David Hare, Earl Spradling, Tre’ Grizzard, John Poole, Billy Brent Wilson, and Tim Hendrix. Visitation is scheduled for 5 until 9 PM on Monday, July 18 at New Lebanon Freewill Baptist Church. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka, MS is entrusted with arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Kacey Phifer of Burnsville; 1 daughter – Riley Phifer of Burnsville; his father, M.B. Phifer of Burnsville 1 brother – Waylon Phifer (Sheila) of Iuka; his aunt, Glenda Wright of Cairo; and a host of nieces, nephews, and close family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lavonne McAnally Phifer. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s’ Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
