Merlyn M. Masters, 74, of Huntsville, passed away Monday. Mr. Masters was a Disbursing and Supply officer on the USS Tolovena. He served in the US Navy in the UK, and was in Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. He was a US Naval Command Contract negotiator in Washington DC, a Contract Negotiator for the US Army, and then for NASA in Huntsville. Mr. Masters was awarded NASA Exceptional Service Award for work with the Hubble Space Telescope, among others.
He was an active leader with Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Elks Lodge where he was active in supporting civic projects. An avid reader, he was also an Alabama sports fan. He enjoyed traveling the country and world with his wife, Ann, and other relatives. Mr. Masters was loved by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Julie S. Masters.
Survivors include his wife, Ann F. Masters; children, Stephen Masters and Christopher Masters; grandchildren, Colin Masters, Stephanie Masters, Joshua Shourds, Savannah Masters, Kenneth Masters; sister, Sandra Sasse; and goddaughter, Mary Jones.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at the church with Dr. Bill Etheredge and Pastor Sherill Clontz officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
