Sheffield Man Arrested and Charged With Assaulting a Police Officer

FLORENCE-On Friday night, May 27 a Florence Police Officer was involved in a short pursuit that ended in the suspect crashing into a telephone pole and then assaulting the police officer:

“A Sheffield man has been  arrested and charged with assaulting a police officer. Hilton Lewis King, 24, of Sheffield was arrested overnight following a vehicle pursuit.

A Florence Police Officer attempted to stop the vehicle King was driving for traffic violations and suspicion of DUI. King refused to yield to the police officer and led police on a brief pursuit which ended in King crashing into a telephone pole along Hermitage Drive.

King then fled the scene and began assaulting the officer as he attempted to arrest him. The officer and a passenger of the vehicle King was driving were treated for injuries at a local hospital. King was charged with Reckless Endangerment, Attempting to Elude, Assault 2nd, Resisting Arrest, and DUI.

He is currently being held in the LCDC on bond totaling $10,000.00
