Dorothea V. Austin of Garth Avenue, Decatur, passed away 30 April. Babs, as she was known, was born in India during the British colonial period. She moved with her family back to England before World War II. Babs worked in various hair salons in Decatur for many years.
Babs was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Louis H. Austin, whom she met and married in England while he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Berlin Airlift.
Surviving relatives include her son, William of Tampa, Florida, and her three grandchildren, Leah of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jason of Tampa, Florida, and Kirstin of Birmingham. There are two great-grandchildren, Patrick and Mark. Also missing Babs are her sister-in-law, Shirley Seibert; her brother-in-law, Tommy and his wife, Sandra Seibert and her great-niece, Heather Pugh. There are other nieces and nephews and their children, many who live in Decatur or Hartselle.
Babs will be interred in the Florida National Cemetery located in Bushnell, Florida, next to the great love of her life.
