veraMrs. Vera Jones passed away peacefully at Oak Park Nursing Home in Auburn, Alabama, on May 5, 2016.
Vera was born Oct. 22, 1929, was one of six children of Lavert and Gertrude Lee, of Leighton, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Thomas Lee, Claude Lee and Sanford Lee; sisters, Virginia Craft and Betty Simmons; and her husband, Tom Jones.
She is survived by her daughters, Karen Jones and Marsha Andrews; and grandchildren, Caroline and Slater Jones.
Mrs. Jones was a longtime resident of Russellville and was known to many for her work as a teacher in the Russellville City Schools, where she retired in 1989. She also spent many years working alongside the Tom, love of her life and husband of nearly 60 years, in their drugstore, Jones Walgreens.
Friends and family are invited to attend visitation to be held Monday, May 9, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m at Akins Funeral Home in Russellville. Funeral services will be held graveside at Franklin Memorial Gardens on Monday, May 9, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Clint Busler officiating.
Pallbearers include Jimmy Andrews, Terry Pounders, Don Ross, John Payne and Greg Batchelor.
A memorial service also will be held at Oak Park Nursing Home in Auburn, Alabama, at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to encourage donations to Russellville First United Methodist Church.
Akins Funeral Home is assisting the family.
