FLORENCE – The May First Fridays, which is scheduled for May 6 from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Florence, is a celebration of warm weather and outdoor activities, according to event organizers.
“Our theme this month is ‘Spring into Florence,’” said Belinda Duke, the co-chairwoman of First Fridays. “Some of the special events we’ve coordinated for the May 6 First Fridays involve activities that get us thinking about planting season and ways we can keep our communities green and beautiful this time of year.”
Representatives from Little Cypress Natives as well as the Lauderdale County Extension Master Gardeners will be on hand, along with individuals from the University of North Alabama Earthwork Exhibit. The City of Florence is also hosting a Kids’ Fest booth.
May also marks the return of car shows to First Fridays, Duke said. The Mustang and Corvette car clubs will be on hand. Event-goers can also peruse two Jeep clubs making their First Fridays debut – The Station Off-Road and the Quad City Swampers.
Of course, no First Fridays would be complete without music. McKenzie Lockart will take the Big River Broadcasting stage at 5 p.m. She’ll be followed at 6 p.m. by Rachel Wammack. The final performance of the evening will be from the Blue Water Bluegrass Band.
First Fridays will welcome dozens of vendors to the event who will line both sides of Court Street. Jewelers, woodworkers, clothing makers, and crafters are among the artisans who will participate in the event.
