Dr. Mar Mae Symonds, 86 years of age, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at Florence Rehabilitation Center. Formerly of Victorville, California, she was preceded in death by her husband Major J. Lynn Symonds, U. S. Airforce retired, and her parents, Stanley and Helen Mayer, of Grand Junction, Colorado.
She is survived by two sons, Jack Symonds (Barbara), of Muscle Shoals, and Jeffrey Scott Symonds, also of Muscle Shoals; and her grandchildren, Jessica King (Trevor), of New Market, Alabama, Kyle Zanetti (Michelle), of Weatherford, Texas, Samantha McKeown (Michael), of Weatherford, Texas, Jensen Symonds, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Dana Baier (Jeffrey), of Glenrose, Texas; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Dr. Symonds was a life-long educator with a B.A. in Education from Redlands University, California. a Master’s in Education from San Diego State, and received her Ph.D. in Human Behavior from the University of Maryland.
She had resided in the Shoals area for the past 15 years to be near her sons. Her enjoyment in life was reading, and she averaged a book a day.
The family would like to thank her special friend and caregiver of several years, Bridgette Thompson, and the staff of Florence Rehab Center.
