Train/Truck Collision One Dead…Victim Identified

traffic_fatality2-300x206CHEROKEE-A truck collided with a train near Barton on Wednesday, April 13 resulting in the death of one man.  ALEA (Alabama Law Victim enforcement Agency) released a statement with the name of the victim:

 “A single-vehicle crash at 1:45 p.m. today, April 13, has claimed the life of a Cherokee man.

Derris Lamone Cortner, 46, was killed when the GMC pickup he was driving attempted to cross a train track and collided with a Norfolk Southern train. Cortner was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred on Red Rock Road, just off Lee Highway, four miles east of Cherokee.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.”
