Pfc. Cornelius “Cory” LaShae Anderson, age 24, formerly of Florence, passed away April 1, 2016. Visitation will be Sunday, April 10, from 6-8 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral will be Monday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Faith Tabernacle with Pastor Steve Huskey officiating. Burial will be at Bethel Lauderdale Church Cemetery.
Pfc. Anderson was born on Feb. 20, 1992, and raised in Florence. He was a 2011 graduate of Lynn High School, Lynn, Alabama, where he lettered in football for four years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in October of 2014. Following his initial training he reported to U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys, Korea, and was assigned to the headquarters and headquarters service company, 532nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 501st Military Intelligence Brigade in May of 2015. During his first year in the unit, Pfc. Anderson was assigned as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was integral in the unit’s maintenance program and was designed to emphasize the unit’s readiness and core competencies.
Pfc. Anderson’s awards are the Army Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He also earned the Drivers Badge.
He was preceded in death by great-grandparents, Joanne and J. T. Rutledge and Oscar Corbin, and grandfather, Harry G. Anderson.
He is survived by his mother, Karen Anderson (Dwight Brown); father, Clifford Anderson (Norma Weakley); stepfather, Daron Poole; and siblings, Marcus (Ashley) Corbin, KaMeila Poole, KaMeira Poole, KaMeika Poole, Daron Deu-Sha Crittenden, Jasmine Savage, Rochelle Poole, O’Bryan Crittenden, and Deterrian Martin.
