Frank William Campbell, Sr. was born April 11, 1926 to John and Lou Campbell in Birmingham, Alabama. He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his brother John Campbell, his wife Gladys Hale Campbell, his son Frank Campbell, Jr., his sister-in-law Gilda Campbell, and son-in-law David Glover. He leaves behind his daughter Carol Campbell Glover; daughter-in-law Joely Brooks Campbell; grandchildren Jennifer Glover Yaeger (husband Jonathan Yaeger), Elizabeth Glover Giles (husband Jackson Giles), Justin Campbell, and Peyton Campbell (boyfriend Kason Smith); and great-grandchildren Nate, Phin, and Sylvie Yaeger and Jack and Emmaline Giles.
He attended Auburn University and was a diehard fan of the Tigers. He worked as an insurance salesman for Liberty National and was a top agent throughout his esteemed career along the way.
Most people know him from his often celebrated golf career. He began as a golf pro and then transitioned into the amateur arena, winning over 250 tournaments all over the United States and abroad. He qualified for the British Open, Amateur division, and the British Open, Senior Amateurs nine times. He was the world Super Senior champion for four consecutive years and once beat Arnold Palmer on the front nine in an exhibition tournament. He was ranked Top 10 Senior Amateurs in USA three times. He was an original board member and the first inductee into the Huntsville-Madison County Athletic Hall of Fame and remained one until his death. He ranked golf courses for several golf magazines and helped design a few golf courses in the South.
Visitation will be Monday, March 7 from 5-7pm and the funeral will be Tuesday, March 8 at 1pm, all at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, followed by interment at Maple Hill Cemetery.
