school-threatDECATUR-Overnight there was a threat made to Decatur High School through social media.  After investigation by the Decatur Police it was established the threat was possibly from out of the area.  Decatur Police released this statement regarding incident:

“Up-Date Reference Social Media Threat to Decatur City Schools.

Decatur PD took multiple subjects into custody overnight who were questioned reference any possible involvement in multiple social media post that made reference to Decatur High School.

By working with FaceBook We have learned that these post originated on newly created accounts. They used local individuals names but were created outside out local area. ( Western State)

These locally named subjects were questioned but no local arrest or charges have been filed at this time. We are coordinating with the Decatur City schools as appropriate during this on-going investigation.

While these post contained “very disturbing information”, we don’t have evidence to believe that a “Credible Local Threat” exist at this time.

This is an ongoing investigation and we will continue to work with a number of other agencies and the school system as we go forward in an attempt to determine the source of these post.

We want to assure you that The Decatur Police Department and the Decatur City schools take any and all safety concerns seriously and we are working together to get to the bottom of this issue as soon as possible.

We will continue to update you here and via school cast as we receive additional information.

We continue to ask that you do not repost the original post via social media. This only creates additional and unnecessary concern for those who maybe unaware of the information you have received here. If you see what you believe is a new post or additional information that you believe is a help to this investigation please forward it via private message to this page or contact your local police department.”
