Mary Lou Holt Overton passed away on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016, at the age of 83. Her visitation will be Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Morrison Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Seth Hood officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Mary retired from Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America as a Union Organizer and was a member of First Baptist Church of Colbert Heights. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Overton, parents, John and Lula Holt, sisters, Rosie Hunter, Lethia Cook, Uvenia Hill, Frances Harris, and Roxie Garsky, brothers, Cecil Holt, and Huey Holt.
She is survived by her son, Philip Overton (Diane); daughter, Jo Ann Emory; brothers, Doltan, Johnnie, Huston (Donna), and Fred Holt (Charon); sisters, Betty Harris and Annette McKinley (Jerry); grandchildren, Jackie and Josh Emory and Matt and Lauren Overton; great-grandchildren, Ian Emory and Evan Overton; special niece, Judy Burrus and nephew Don Raper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Glenwood Rehab.
Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Colbert Heights Building Fund.
