Ellis Thomas Baggs, age 92, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 2015. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 27, at Decatur First United Methodist Church with Dr. Hughey Reynolds officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Hartselle City Cemetery directly following the service.
Ellis was born Jan. 1, 1923, in Chicago, to Thomas E. and Hulda S. Baggs. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University and a master’s degree in public administration from The University of Alabama. He retired from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center as Deputy Director of the Electrical Division. He was a United Sates Navy veteran of World War II, a member of Decatur First United Methodist Church, and a faithful member of “The Seekers” Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Stephen Ellis Baggs; and brother, Navy Commander Charles Chaplin Baggs.
He is survived by his wife, Jeflyn Landers Baggs; two sons,
Mark Baynard Baggs (Kendra) of Daphne, and
Jonathan Ford Baggs (Stephania) of Decatur; one daughter-in-law, Gail Baggs of Hartselle; six grandchildren, Elizabeth, Rowe, Sarah, Ford, Juliana, and Baynard Baggs; two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte Baggs; and one sister, Ruth Guy of Charleston, South Carolina.
