Gordon O’Neil Scott passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at the age of 52. Visitation will be today from 6 p.m. until at Murphy’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. He will lie in state at the church Wednesday, Dec. 23, two hours before a graveside service at Murphy’s Chapel Cemetery at 1 p.m., with Brother Wayne Wood officiating. Pallbearers are Ricky Woods, Robert Woods, Keith Dean, Robert Dean, Tony Orrick and Stevie Orrick.
He was preceded in death by his mama, Bobbie Scott.
Survivors are his daughter, Heather Scott, of Huntsville; father, Gary Scott, of Waterloo; two sisters, Pam Butler, of Waterloo, and Karen Mitchell (Eddy), of Florence; one brother, Gregg Scott (Leanne), of Waterloo; and a host of nieces and nephews that loved him as much as he did them.
Neil was the former owner of Waterloo Market and Grille, where he enjoyed working for eight years until he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Neil was a big leader in the Waterloo Community and served for a short time as mayor. He was a big supporter of the Trail of Tears and worked very hard to help get things ready for it each year. He was known as “The Voice of the Cougars” for his great performance of announcing the football games at Waterloo High School. He was a Harley rider with a host of friends that he enjoyed riding with. He was a hard worker who loved working for the community of Waterloo. Neil had a big love for country music. He had several bands that he loved playing in but enjoyed singing most of all. Neil will be missed by many.
