judyMrs. Judy Holliman Prather, 99, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday
Dec. 15, 2015, in Davis, Calif., where she had moved to be with her
daughter and family, since February 2014. She was lucid, independent, and social
just days before passing. As were her wishes, she was returned to her beloved
Alabama for services and burial.
There will be a celebration of her life and a time to grieve our loss on Tuesday
Dec. 22, 2015, at 1 p.m. at Greenview Memorial Chapel. Preceding the memorial
service there will be a visitation from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Ellis Coates and Frank Mills will be
presiding over the service. There will be a small private burial following the service
at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens with Clifford Miles presiding.
Judy was a life long member of the Church of Christ. When she moved back to
Alabama after 30 years in South Bend, Ind., she lived and worshiped at Elgin
Church of Christ for 5 years, and since 1982 was a devoted member of Darby Drive
and CrossPoint.
Judy was born in Florence, November 20, 1916. She married Porter E Thompson,
also of Florence, in 1936. He predeceased her in 1965. She will be buried next to
him after 50 years. Porter and Judy had two children, Porter E Thompson,
Jr, (Barbara) Foley, and Sharon Thompson Wilson, (Steve) Davis.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Richards, father, Columbus
Holliman, brothers, Buford, Leslie, Donald “T”, and Leamon Holliman and her
granddaughter, Joanne Thompson.
She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Janet Outman, Knachell Kellogg and Max Wilson, and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Grant and Lauren. Pallbearers will be Max Holliman Wilson, Steve Wilson, Charles McClure, Glenn Tatum, Steve Letson and Gregory Kemp.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Cross Point Church of Christ for their Ambassadors program and their ministries to widows. Checks may be sent to the church at 1350 Cox Creek Parkway, Florence, AL 35633.
