Charles McDowra Mills, age 88, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday December 1, 2015. Funeral services will be Friday December 4, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral home, with pastor Ben Hayes officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Charlie was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 39 years of service. After their retirements, Charlie and George enjoyed many years of traveling the U. S. and Europe. She loved and was greatly loved by her family. Many good times were had at their home through the years–Easter egg hunts, croquet games, shuffle board, cook-outs, Christmas parties, family reunions, boating and skiing on the Tennessee river. She was a mother figure to all her nieces and nephews. She loved the City of Decatur. She donated the clock and lion statues on Lee Street.

She is survived by her husband, George, of 66 years and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burt and Helen McDowra, two brothers and eight sisters.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
