James Arthur “Sonny” Hendon – Obituary

jamesJames Arthur “Sonny” Hendon, age 83, of Florence, passed away Nov. 1, 2015. Visitation will be today, Nov. 4, 2015, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Spry-Williams Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with Brother Bill Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens, Florence.

Sonny was the owner of Hendon Septic Tank and Backhoe Service. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, Florence. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and was always giving of himself. Sonny was famous for making chicken stew and sharing it with everyone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rachel Hendon; son, Mickey Bob Hendon; and great-grandson, Elijah Payne.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dorothy Faye Hendon; children, Rebecca Diane Pickens (Randy), Ronald Keith Hendon (Donna), Barbara Gail Connors (John), Peggy Lynn Mabry, Teresa Suzy Hendon (Olive); daughter-in-law, Angie Hendon; siblings, Douglas Hendon and Polly Hamilton; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
