James Edward Elledge, age 78, Russellville, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, at Russellville Health Care.
He was born in Colbert County, Alabama, on Aug. 25, 1937, to Russell and Mary Carpenter Elledge. After returning from Illinois to his family roots in Franklin County, Alabama, James was owner/operator of Elledge Texaco in Russellville until retirement. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed Alabama football and basketball. His greatest joy in recent years was watching his stepgrandsons play basketball for Belgreen High School. He was a member of South Side Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, who for years brought fresh flowers for his wife every Sunday, as well as a caring father, grandfather, and brother.
The visitation will be 6–8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015, at Spry Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.
James is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Bertha Chambers Elledge, children, Rickie Elledge, Debra Cummings; stepchildren, Lowell “Tooter” Landers, Teresa Alsbrooks (husband, David); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Ronald Elledge, J.B. Elledge (wife, Linda), Charles Elledge (wife, Mary); sisters, Martha Carpenter, Gail Robertson (husband, W.C.), Patricia Pace (husband, Steve); and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Elledge, stepson, William “Pete” Landers, brother, R.M. Elledge Jr., and sister, Mary Elledge Screeton.
The pallbearers will be Lowell Landers, Chase Landers, Chance Landers, Jimmy Murphree, Ben Elledge, and Duncan Ward.
