ATHENS – Athens State University’s Associate Professor of Criminal Justice Quanda Stevenson and Writing Center Director Joy Bracewell have been selected to serve as campus representatives for the Fulbright Scholar Program. The Fulbright Scholar Program is a program of highly competitive, merit-based grants for international educational exchange for students, scholars, teachers, professionals, scientists and artists. The program was founded by United States Senator J. William Fulbright in 1946.

“We want to make sure that Athens State students are globally prepared for the ever-changing job market after graduation,” said Interim Provost Ron Ingle. “I can think of no other way to immerse them in diverse cultures than by making the world a little more accessible.”

Campus Representatives serve as the Fulbright Scholar Program’s main point of contact on college campus. They are charged with sharing information with faculty and administrators about the more than 800 awards given by the program to over 125 countries.
This year marks the first time Fulbright Campus Representatives have been identified on Athens State University’s campus.
