Funeral service for Runnie Colleen Whitehead, age 89, of Decatur, will be Saturday, September 5, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sam Wallace officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Interment will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Whitehead, who died Thursday, September 3, 2015, at Decatur Health & Rehabilitation, was born October 15, 1925, in Nettleton, MS, to John Allen Coggin and Fannie Coggin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Milton Eugene “Gene” Whitehead, her parents, two sisters, Johnny May Coggin, and Lois Riley, and one brother, James Coggin.
Colleen is survived by two sons, Larry Whitehead (Connie) of Decatur, and Dennis Whitehead (Martha) of Trinity; four grandchildren, Joey Whitehead (Kayla), Adam Whitehead (Lori), Donnie Whitehead (Heather), and April Brown (Omar); eight great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joey Whitehead, Michael Davis, Donnie Whitehead, Douglas Davis, Mason Whitehead, and Adam Whitehead.
The family would like to thank Decatur Health & Rehabilitation and Hospice of the Valley for taking such good care of her, and their compassion for her family.
