Nedra-Trebing-1440523569Nedra Johnson Trebing was born March 13, 1941 in Giles County Tennessee. She was the second child of 5 children born to James Flenoy Johnson and Jewel Duncan Johnson. Nedra Johnson Trebing passed peacefully on August 24th, 2015 in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee at the age of 74. She was raised in the Bodenham Community, graduating from Bodenham High School in 1959 as Valedictorian of her class. She served as student secretary to Principal Marlin Goodman during her senior year. She graduated from Martin Methodist College in 1961 and then came to work at the college. Through more than 40 years at the college she served in a variety of roles in the business office, the registrar’s office, but is most widely known as the trainer and aide for no less than seven presidents in the role as assistant to the President. In 2004, the Board of Trustees, in recognition of her retirement, passed a resolution naming her as the Assistant to the President Emeritus. In October 2012, Martin Methodist College bestowed one of its highest honors, the President’s Medallion upon her. This award has long been recognized as a singular privilege, reserved for those who have served with devotion, loyalty, and distinction. She was a member of Choates Creek United Methodist Church since 1954. Her affiliations included Past President, Past Vice President, and Secretary for the United Methodist Women and numerous other committees. She served as pianist, Sunday School Teacher, and events coordinator. She researched and wrote “Choates Creek Church and Cemetery History—The First 125 Years” in 1979. She was Publicity Chairman for the Giles County United Methodist Revival in 1982, 1983, and 1985. She had and extensive global reach, travelling overseas after WWII visiting Germany, Italy, and many other countries of Europe. Her global reach continued with her assisting foreign students from Zimbabwe, Japan, Denmark, and many other nations to attend university at Martin College. She continued to spread the Methodist Ministry in foreign countries throughout her life. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Alpha Delta Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, and served on the Board of Trustees for the Marlin Goodman Memorial Fund. She received many honors and awards including UMW, Lifetime Membership Missions. Danny Thomas. St. Jude’s Children’s Research Philanthropy. Boy Scoutmaster’s Wife Award, Outstanding Young Women of America and the Beta Club. She was preceded in death by a Father James Flenoy Johnson, Brother Delmas Johnson, and Sister Linda Johnson Yokley. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, William A. Trebing, sons, David L. Kirby, of Pulaski, TN. Jonathan Kirby and wife Heather, of Murfreesboro, TN. Joseph Trebing and wife Donna of Manassas, Virginia. Andy Trebing and wife Bridget of Chicago, IL. Eight grandchildren, Kyndall Kirby, Joshua Kirby, Hannah Kirby, Matthew Kirby, John Ryan Kirby, June Trebing, Sarah Trebing, Holly Trebing, and one great-grandchild, Kymberli Baltimore also survive. Visitation will be held Wednesday the 26th from 4-8pm at Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday 27th at 1pm at Bennett-May Giles County Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11-1 prior to the service. Burial will follow at Choates Creek Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers are the Martin Methodist College Board of Trustees and Current and past staff of Martin Methodist College. Memorials are suggested to; Choates Creek United Methodist Cemetery Fund, Jewel and Flenoy Johnson Scholarship Fund at Martin Methodist College, Britton Taylor Scholarship Fund at Martin Methodist College.
