royRoy C. Highland, 74, died Monday July 6, at Mitchell Hollingsworth following an extended illness. Visitation will begin at noon today at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Rea officiating. Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park with friends and family serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the Pairs and Spares Sunday school class.
Mr. Highland was born in Florence to the late Rob C. Highland and Nelma Lee Condrey Highland. He was retired from Ford Motor Company and an active member of Woodmont Baptist Church where he was a member of Bill Inskeep’s Sunday school class, The Pairs and Spares.
Survivors are his wife, Paula Artis Highland; son, Robert Troy Highland (Melanie), Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter, Jennifer Jones (Lan), Florence; brother, Jimmy Highland (Doris), Florence; sister, Emogene Boyd (Joe), Florence; and grandchildren, Brittany Highland, Knoxville, Lindsey Highland, Orlando, Florida, Bailey Highland, Knoxville, and Ben Jones, Evan Jones, and Will Jones, all of Florence.
The family would like to extend a “special thanks” to all the nurses and CNAs at Mitchell Hollingsworth and Rosa Darby, Jeff Hornbuckle, Stephanie Lambert, and the entire staff of Gentiva Hospice for the care and compassion shown to Mr. Highland.
