Funeral for Royal Marion Mote, 82, of Moulton, will be noon Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at Moulton First United Methodist Church with Rev. Eric Brown and Rev. Amy Howard officiating. Burial will be in Moulton Memory Gardens. Visitation will be today, June 22, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time.
Mr. Mote died at home on June 20, 2015,. He was born in Mt. Moriah and was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County. He was a devoted husband, father and “papaw”. Royal was an active member of Moulton First United Methodist Church since his marriage in 1952. He was an Army veteran and after leaving the service in 1956, he began his career at Chemstrand (Monsanto) working as a computer operator. As his career steadily progressed, he both witnessed and was part of the computer “revolution”. After leaving Monsanto, he joined Wolverine as a manager in 1973. He continued a successful career in information technology at Wolverine until his retirement in 1995. Along the way he helped many young men and women join the growing information technology industry.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Elaine Harris Mote; daughter, Janice Mote Sandlin (Joel), of Moulton; and sons, Gary Mote (Sylvia), of Hartselle and Doug Mote (Rhonda), of Moulton; his sisters, Hilda Mote Tait, of Decatur and Daphine Mote Wallace (Jerius), of Moulton; grandchildren, Adam Sandlin, AJ Sandlin, Nicole Sandlin Patterson, Stephanie Sandlin Jones, Josh Mote, Jessie Mote Terry, and Nick Salas, all of Moulton, Jodie Mote, of Birmingham and Amanda Mote Norgard, of Hartselle. Royal and Elaine were also blessed with 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marlon and Bessie Mote, of Moulton; daughter, Rebecca Kay Mote; and a sister, Geraldine, both of whom died in infancy.
Pallbearers will be Adam Sandlin, Jodie Mote, Jeremy Norgard, AJ Sandlin, Scott Patterson, Josh Mote, Brandon Terry and nephew, Wayne Harris.
Lawrence Funeral Home will be assisting family with arrangements and service.
